Paeloko Learning Center is a Native Hawaiian education center providing hands-on learning opportunities through indigenous ancestral arts, culture and language to the Maui community and all those interested in learning.

Our Team

  • LORI LEI ISHIKAWA

    Lei is a Native Hawaiian kapa practitioner. Her passion is to enrich Native Hawaiian students, families, and community members in a cultural-based foundation to become leaders and stewards of Hawaiʻi. Lei holds a bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Studies, a master’s in Human Resource Management, and a Ph.D. in Indigenous Studies. She has celebrated over two decades at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College working with Native Hawaiian students and community organizations. Leiʻs passion for serving her community has ignited her research to focus on reconnecting kapa cultural traditions to the contemporary Hawaiian--through the examination of artifacts, moʻolelo (history), and the process of kapa making.

  • LEILEI ISHIKAWA

    Leilei is a graduate of Kula Kaiapuni o Maui and was a kumu Pūnana Leo for over 14 years. Her passion is ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi and native plants. Leilei also dances hula with Pāʻū o Hiʻiaka. She has established a strong foundation in Hawaiian language, culture and values instilled in her by her ʻohana and her kumu.

    ʻO ka hā o ka ʻāina ke ola o ke kanaka. The breath of the land is the life of itʻs people.

  • TRINA SANDERS

    Trina is the program coordinator for Paeloko Learning Center. She is married and has four wonderful keiki. Trina is involved in Hawaiian immersion programs here on Maui, such as Pūnana Leo o Maui and Kula Kaiapuni. Her passion is her ʻohana and her community and to help set a solid foundation for the growth of those around her.

    He ʻaʻaliʻi kū makani mai au, ʻaʻohe makani nāna e kulaʻi.
